In early March 2020, as the COVID-19 disease was spreading around the world, I knew it was only a matter of time before our bar would become empty or closed completely.
I'd had the idea of offering home delivery of our beer ever since we got our own canning machine at the bar. I originally was going to use Uber Eats. So in early March I set the wheels in motion and applied to Uber Eats. By mid March we were setup and had our own Uber Eats 'store'. This was just as people stopped coming and and our government advised people to avoid bars and cafes.
I soon discovered the limitations of Uber Eats, one being the huge commission cut they take, the other that they could only deliver within 1.5 miles of the bar. That along with the fact they just did not collect orders and they soon piled up on the bar waiting.
I decided we could provide a delivery service better ourselves and over the course of the next couple of days I setup a new e-commerce website from scratch and before the end of March, we had our own home delivery service up and running!
This has proved very successful and allowed us to continue running the business. We are now in the process of expanding our delivery options nationwide, watch this space!
